Help Catherine raise money

For participating in RAV Virtual Team Challenge 2024

My Story…

For the second year running (haha), I'll be participating in the Run Against Violence with KWILS, despite my continuing distrust of land-based cardio and recent discovery of my asthmatic hindrance.

Last year, I included a statistic about the widespread nature of domestic violence in Australia and its prevalence. However, this year, it seems more apt to talk about how a woman is violently killed every 4 days in Australia, often by someone known to them. So far, in 2024 and as of this post, the total number is 46 (source: Counting Dead Women Australia). That despite the incredible ongoing efforts of DFSV organisations, it is apparent that things are getting worse and that violence is escalating within intimate relationships in Australia.

The recent DFSV Commission Yearly Report and the National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children comes amidst feverent discussion within public discourse about the increasingly worrying rates of violence and the urgent need to reduce them. Included in the recommendations, is increasing consent and respectful relationships education in schools across Australia, which is in line with the ethos of LoveBites, the donatee of today's post. It should not be on victim-survivors to carry the burden of violence prevention, but our community at large.

We owe it to ourselves, our loved ones and our neighbours, to ensure we know the signs of abuse before it ends in the greatest tragedy.

Please consider contributing to the cause and creating a safer Australia where hopefully one day, we won't see the tragic losses we see today in our communities.

Thank you.
